SWJO section trumpeter and manager
Derek Lawton commented
afterwards: "The performance was expertly recorded by the students
from the
Swansea Institute.
Following only a short soundcheck, the recording team produced one of
the best digital recordings the band has made, and each and every instrument
can be heard on the final CD, which is no mean task when you have 19 musicians
playing charts ranging from a quiet ballad to a 'full-on' latin-rock roof
lifter!
Particularly impressive was the expertise in recording the five-conga
setup used by
Robin Jones, not an easy task when he was surrounded
by brass and woodwind. The results are stunning."
The two DPA 4041-T microphones were simply attached to the stereo boom
supplied with the 3532-T kit and hung in front of the band. With exceptionally
low self-noise and high sensitivity, the
DPA 4041 is ideal for
this type of detailed work, particularly where acoustic instruments with
large dynamic ranges need to be captured. The new phantom-powered 4041-SP
model delivers outstanding performance with an extremely low self-noise
of typically 7dB(A) and a THD less than 0.5% at 120dB SPL peak.
