Here are some pictures from last night at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, where jazz pianist Joey Caldarazzo and the UK’s Gareth Williams gave a magical performance, and there was a surprise appearance by the inimitible Branford Marsalis to boot! The beautiful sounds of the TWO Steinway & Sons grand pianos on stage were captured by DPA d:dicate™ 2011C microphones, favourites of the club’s FOH Engineer, Luc St Martin.
Calderazzo performed as part of the Steinway Festival 2014, and in the run-up to releasing a new album later in the year. Gareth Williams joined him for the first part of what turned out to be a blistering display of musical skill, listening and improvisation. The sound of the two beautiful Steinway grand pianos was captured using DPA d:dicate™ 2011C microphones. Luc St Martin also devised his own clip to attach a 4011C to the double bass, played by Orlando Le Fleming, while the smallish venue only required an overhead for the drumkit – in this case a DPA d:dicate™ 2011C – which was masterfully played by Donald Edwards.
