Product Description
The DPA 4015A Wide Cardioid Pencil Microphone gives the open sound of an omni with the benefit of directionality and linear off-axis response. The DPA 4015A is ideal being used as overhead mics in live situations and it excels on all acoustic instruments in recording studio environments.
The off-axis characteristics of the 4015A are totally linear, a unique quality when it comes to authentic sound reproduction. Any leakage that occurs from off-axis sound sources is still a faithful reproduction of these sounds, just softly attenuated, so any adjustments to the main focus of the microphone won’t make any spill sound unnatural.
As with all of the modular Pencil Microphones, you can combine the MMC4015 Wide Cardioid Mic Capsule with any of DPA’s preamps.
Sometimes a conventional cardioid pattern just isn’t quite open enough. Recording orchestras, and other ensembles, sometimes require a compromise between blending in the room reverberation and a more precise directionality.
4015 Polar Pattern – Wide Cardioid
When recording instruments with complex radiation patterns, the wide cardioid of the 4015A (also known as hemispheric) design covers a greater sound angle and is an excellent choice. This is the ideal mic for recording grand piano, guitar, marimba and percussion, or as a spot mic for groups in a symphony orchestra. Likewise, it is an excellent speech, dubbing, or vocal mic as its enhanced richness on the bass end nicely compliments many voices.
