DPA 4017C Shotgun Compact Pencil Microphone

The DPA 4017C Shotgun Compact Pencil Microphone is a powerful, compact and extra-lightweight shotgun microphone with groundbreaking design features ensuring great results on any production project. Measuring just 154mm and weighing in at 70g, the 4017C sets a new standard for shotgun microphones. The microphone is immune to RF emissions and handles up to 146dB SPL before clipping.

The DPA 4017 mic capsule makes use of DPA’s Interference Tube Technology, a unique method of forming the 4017’s directional polar pattern, and their painstakingly engineered mic diaphragms to give the 4017C shotgun mic its superior sound quality.

Product Description

The DPA 4017C Shotgun Compact Pencil Microphone marries DPA’s highly directional super-cardioid polar pattern shotgun capsule with their unique impedance balanced, active drive designed ‘C’ compact preamp. The 4017C excels in the field where excellent off-axis attenuation is required, offering exceptional clarity, accuracy and musicality. It is also very light weight (70g) and is ideal for multi tasking, including ENG, fixed sports applications and of course main boom miking.

The 4017C’s superior polar pattern

Of its exclusive shotgun mic design, DPA Microphones says:

Extensive research and development has been undertaken to optimize the sound coming from the sides and back of the microphone. One of the key accomplishments is that we have minimized often very un-linear response of a shotgun microphone due to its side lobes. The condenser capsule uses a high voltage pre-polarized back plate, endowing the shotgun with high output as well as wide dynamics, extremely low noise and distortion specifications.

The MMC-4017 capsule that comes with the 4017C shotgun mic can be interfaced with any of the series pre-amps – The ‘B’ pre-amp, for example, is fitted with a 50Hz high pass filter which can be increased to 120Hz accessed via a ring switch on the barrel of the microphone, as well as a second switch which gives a 4dB presence boost at 8Khz.
